HOW IT WORKS
A way of thinking that changes how you move.
SkinGuidance is not a program you follow. It is a way of thinking that changes how you move — in everything you do, everywhere you go. Once understood, the principles apply everywhere: at your desk, in your car, walking, playing an instrument, carrying a grandchild. No equipment. No gym. No bracing
"Alexander said you cannot bring this condition about directly. With SkinGuidance, you set up the organizing points — and the condition appears as a natural side effect." — Stan Hobbs
THE PRINCIPLES
What makes SkinGuidance work.
Skinsense
The awareness already living in your skin. Not something you develop from scratch — something you already have and learn to use deliberately.
Contact — Opposition — Organization
Every movement begins with contact. Your foot on the floor. Your hands on a desk. Your back against a chair. From that contact your body organizes itself from one or more opposition points. SkinGuidance teaches you to choose those points deliberately, so the organization works for you instead of against you.
Skindirection
The skill of consciously directing an area of skin away from — or toward — a point in space. This single direction, clearly understood and applied, begins to lengthen and expand the whole body without effort, without bracing, without force.
Skinsetizing
Bringing conscious attention to a specific area of skin by touching, naming, or contacting it. This wakes up that area as a reliable reference point for organizing movement. The more clearly you can be aware of an area, the more effectively you can direct it.
Skin Memory — not Muscle Memory
What we call muscle memory is more accurately understood as skin memory. Habits, patterns, and skills are stored through the sensory-neural systems of the skin — not in the muscles themselves. Changing a habit requires changing the sensory information, not just repeating a movement.
Pattern Transference
Postural and behavioral patterns are copied, inherited, and transferred — through families, teachers, and relationships — often without awareness. SkinGuidance brings these patterns into awareness so they can be reorganized rather than endlessly repeated.
THE SESSION
Simple. Sequential. No application required.
1 — Book and pay online
Choose your intro session and pay securely via Stripe. You'll receive a Google Calendar link immediately to choose your date and time.
2 — Join Stan on Google Meet
45 minutes, recorded. Stan observes how you organize yourself in real time and introduces the directions that begin to reorganize your movement immediately. Please note any injuries, chronic pain, or medical conditions in the booking notes.
3 — Receive your written observations
After the session Stan sends written notes — what he observed, what was discovered, and where to direct your attention before the next session.
4 — Continue if you choose
After your intro session, if you'd like to go deeper, Stan will invite you to continue with a structured block of sessions. No pressure. No obligation.

In forty-five years of this work Stan has never been unable to show someone what is interfering with how they move, or to produce a change they can observe and work with in a single session. He has never had to.
